Return of the Fly (Part 2)
Just when I thought I had run out of "fly" stories to tell, a 'fly-like' incident popped up of nowhere. It all started when I had an unexpected visitor at work on Tuesday...10.30am - Jolll busy working and concerntrating hard on her work
Ding Dong... (Door bell to my office sounds..)
Jolll continues with her work, while clerk goes to attend to the visitor
Clerk: Hi... long time no see..
Jolll still unaware of the impending danger, thinking its someone here to collect payment
Fly 1 walks into Jolll's room.....
Jolll still very much absorbed in her work.. looks up...finds the person vaguely familiar... Who is this person walking in?? Mind racing for the various subcontractors' and suppliers' names...meanwhile (woe on me!!) flashed him a pleasant smile as she always does to all her visitors...(Arrgghh.. wrong move!!! Totally regretted smiling to him ever since..!)
Fly No.1: Hi Joanne. How r u?
Mental Lightbulb lights up!! There's no mistaking that distinct accent...Arrrghhh... Its the FLY (aka the Original Fly). Jolll momentarily stunned...(woe upon woe) with smile plastered on face... (Yup.. still am regretting my impulse to smile at him.) Then, reality sets in. No more Miss-sweet smile-on-my-face.
Fly Spray Mode in Operation
Mission: To remove the Fly from the premises in the shortest time possible
Jolll: Oh hi. (Note: Jolll did not offer him a seat. This is to discourage him from staying too long)
Fly No.1: Here, retun u RM 50.00...
Jolll: Aiyo.. No need lah, Its been such a long time already.
U must all be wondering how this guy has my number, knows where I work, and now owes me money... Sounds like we know each other quite well rite???
For your information, this guy, lets call him Fly No.1 (aka the Original Fly that inspired me to write the Fly series) is an ex-employee of my company. So obviously that answers the first 2 questions. As to how in the world he owes me money, thats another story on its own...
To cut the story short: About 2 years ago, we (as in me, him and another ex-colleague) had a sumptous seafood dinner, and it turned out that the 2 guys did not have enough cash to buy me dinner, so I gratiously volunteered to pay RM 50.00 for that meal. Anyway, it seemed that Fly guy here had felt 'indebted' to me since, and kept wanting to return the money to me, which I have rejected time and time again... (Yeah I know, I know, what the hell was I having dinner with him in the first place right?? Again, it was one of those things on my REGRETS list...)
Back to this story...
Fly No.1: No, I must give this to u.. Its a matter of principle...
Jolll: (Shrugs...) Ok lor... (Note: I am in no way acknowledging that he has any principles, I just want him to get this over and done with..... Alright....!! I'm eternally grateful to him for remembering that RM 50.00 that he 'owes' me from 2 years back...)
Fly No. 1: In addition... Here's an extra RM 10.00.. please accept this as interest for the money i owe you..
Jolll: Huh??? (Note: In actual fact, based on a standard credit interest rate of 18% per annum, over 2 yrs on RM 50.00, he should actually pay me RM 18.00. Hey!! U still owe me RM 8.00!!)
Of course, Jolll being the ever understanding and uncalculating girl, accepted the RM 60.00 without further comment. (Come on lah, no use doing the time consuming pushing the $$ to and fro thingy that we chinese love to do... hehe)
Fly No.1: Ehh... so u busy these days? Got any projects or not?? What project r u working on now??
Jolll points to the piles and stacks of paperwork, and files on the desk... (Isn't it obvious enough?)
Jolll: Ya very busy, have a few projects going on... (Note: While replying to Fly, Jolll not looking up, was pretending to be very busy by trying to concerntrate on working out some invisible calculations in front of her...)
Awkward 5 seconds silence (Jolll relishing every second of that awkward moment to Fly *evil grin*)
Fly No. 1: Errr.. since u r so busy... I wil make a move first...
Jolll: Ok. Bye!!
So is this Fly successfully annihilated?? Was Jolll being a tad too rude?? Any comments people???
